One of my favorite chapters in the Bible is Chapter 11 in the Book of Hebrews- the Book of Faith. This book tells the story of all the men and women in the Bible who walked out their lives in faith regardless of what they saw. These are people who chased after the promises of God in spite of what the enemy tried to steal from them. These are people who dared to believe despite what they were told. As with Abraham, all of them knew that God could never lie. So they dared to live when people told them to die, to speak when people told them to remain silent, and to fight when people told them to hide. They lived in faith.
As I read the book of Hebrews, I recognized that God’s definition of faith is far removed from the “faith” usually brought up in conversations. For example, Abraham was over 100 years old when he was told that he would bear a child. In all likelihood, most of Abraham’s contemporaries thought he was crazy when he said God promised him a son. But faith. And then there’s David, the shepherd boy, last in the line of eight brothers, who struck down a giant with a stone. In both stories, the men operated with exceptional faith.
Today, I was motivated to share a written word on the power of Faith and the Promises of God. In life, as we chase our purpose and utilize our gifts, the enemy tries his best to dissuade us from what God has called us to do. Often, this manifest in young believers as doubt, unbelief, and second-guessing. But as we grow in our walk with God, it is critical to remember that Jesus Christ is The Rock. In the Book of Matthew, Chapter 7, Jesus Christ tells his disciples:
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock.”
It is helpful to remember that Jesus is the living the word. And so, in spite of the obstacles and opposition that may manifest on your journey. Do not allow your circumstances to discourage you from believing the promises of God. As long as you keep speaking and declaring the word of God over your life, you will always be a conqueror.
Thanks be to God for his mercy and his grace and Thank you Jesus Christ for being The Rock!
